Why is lash cleansing important?

Why do I need to cleanse my lash extensions daily? Wont they fall out quicker?
Always emphasise the importance of cleaning your eyelashes daily. Naturally everyday your skin secretes oil. If you naturally have oily skin, this is an even bigger reason why you need to keep your lash extensions clean. As you may or may not already know, oil is no friend to eyelash extensions. Oils break down the bond in the glue, which only means your lashes will fall out sooner. Most of my clients tell me they are afraid to wash their lashes; “I don’t want them to fall out too quickly”. Allowing the oil, dust, dead skin cells and makeup to build up on your lashes will clog your follicles. Clogged follicles can lead to nasty eye infections and no lash technician will lash an infected eye. Not being hygienic with your lashes is the worst thing you could do if you are wanting to prolong the life of your extensions. We also highly recommend that you avoid too much touching and pulling of your lash extensions, which is why a gentle touch is definitely important for lash retention. In simple terms, clean and well-kept lash extensions prevent all sorts of eeky problems and also help them last a lot longer! If you follow the provided lash cleansing instructions and take care of the hygiene of your lashes, you will be able to keep getting your extensions refilled without a hassle.

How do I cleanse my/clients lash extensions?
1. Using your chosen cleanser or lash shampoo, lather cleanser on a makeup pad, glass bowl or straight on and smother your clients lashes. Gently work into the lashes.
2. Lint-free flocked applicators (disposable lip makeup applicators or cleansing brush) are fabulous for thorough removal of makeup along the lash line.
3. Rinse thoroughly with warm water. You can use a kidney dish with a lint free make up pad with a towel pressed against the face or you can use a water rinse bottle with also a towel pressed up against the side of the face. Make sure to rinse all shampoo/cleanser off your clients face.
4. Gently use the same towel pressing down on your clients eyes to dry. Do not rub. (Giving your client the towel once finished to just give them that comfort of getting any of the water you may have missed)
5. Using a CLEAN mascara wand to gently brush through the lashes to make them neat and ready to lash. Be careful if you are cleaning on an infill not to brush through the base of the lashes.
6. Get ready to start applying lash extensions.

If you want to give your client a great service, the aftercare instructions are really important. Completed well, it will help you to stand out as a lash artist.

Aftercare is extremely important for eyelash extensions. Recommend your clients purchase a lash shampoo/cleanser to take home to keep up maintenance. Regular cleansing helps prevent bacterial infections from possibly forming on your clients extensions. This will also make your job easier. Regular cleansing keeps lashes clean so when your client returns for infills, you have a clean base to work with.
